Farzaneh Hosseini, b. 1984, Tehran Iran.
Her professional career started in 2005 with a solo Linocut exhibition titled Siah Naghsh that was held in Tehran’s Artist Forum. In expanding her professional skill set, she then joined Parviz Tanavoli’s sculpture courses in 2006, which was followed by her recruitment as his assistant between 2007 and 2010. She furthermore holds a bachelor’s degree in Painting from Alzahra University in Tehran.
The artist works with different materials and presents her ideas using a wide range of mediums such as video, drawing, prints and even cookies. Her choices of material and medium are directly linked with the content of her concepts and ideas as well as the way she intends to engage with her interlocutors. In her works she addresses subjects like abuse by political power, oppression and limitations or privileges that come with different social roles.
Hosseini so far, has had four solo exhibitions and participated in more than 40 group exhibitions in Iran, France, Sweden, the UK and the UAE.
While one of her works was shortlisted for the Magic of Persia Art prize in 2012 in Dubai, the Institut Francais granted her a residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts Paris in 2017 as well as a follow up residency in the year later.
