Lingering States – Films in Suspension

In Iran, Palestine, Lebanon, Sudan, Kurdistan, Afghanistan, Syria, and many other places that are either in or between wars, people face displacement, economic precarity, and uncertain futures. Persistent conditions that structure daily life and create an atmosphere shaped by repetition, delay, uncertainty, and an ongoing sense of suspension. The films in this program are less concerned with events but rather with the mental and temporal conditions they produce.

They are approached as responses to a shared state, while remaining attentive to their formal articulations, tracing how these conditions gradually find their way into form, appearing through interruptions, repetition, dissonance, moments where meaning hesitates or slips.

This program does not offer direct explanations or literal representations. Instead, it features films that engage uncertainty as a working condition and sustain it as an open inquiry, inviting a mode of attention grounded in the present rather than afar analysis.
